MP Walid Al-Tabtabaie has submitted a number of parliamentary questions to Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Mohammad Al-Afasi concerning the implementation of disability rights legislation introduced last year.
In his questions, Al-Tabtabaie asked Dr. Al-Afasi, who is also the Minister of Justice, about the total number of individuals registered with the Supreme Council of the Disabled as being partially disabled, the number of complaints filed by disabled people about their disabilities being unaccredited, and the procedures to be followed in such cases.
Fellow MP Hassan Jouhar, meanwhile, submitted questions to the education minister on alleged violations of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training's (PAAET's) scholarship scheme, specifically the eligibility criteria. Jouhar also requested a list of all the beneficiaries of the program from 2008 up to the present.
Another lawmaker, Ali Al-Deqbasi, submitted several parliamentary questions to the Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr. Amani Buresli about food prices and whether his ministry had conducted any recent studies on this issue.
He enquired as to what penalties are imposed on merchants who violate the legislation covering this area and raise prices without ministry approval. Al-Deqbasi also asked for information on how goods are priced, whether the ministry has been notified by any retailers of an intention to raise prices, and whether the ministry requests' producers' and manufacturers' receipts from local retailers.
