Role of labour unions, members in focus

A meeting was held yesterday at Hilton Salalah among members of Majlis Ash'shura representatives of the wilayats of Dhofar Governorate and members of the administrative staff of the labour unions and Chairman of Sultanate's labour confederation.


Musallam bin Said Tabouk, Deputy Head of the Labour Syndicate for Salalah Port said that the main role of the labour confederation is to address the manifestations that may hamper production in an objective and transparent manner to ensure meeting the public and social interests and enhancing the union in the national development process.


Saud bin Ali al Jabri, Chairman of the Sultanate's General Trade Union in his speech pointed out that such meetings play an important role in introducing the demands and problems faced by the labourers. He pointed out that the Sultanate's Trade Union which was promulgated in 2006 as per a Royal Decree has made many achievements including the constitution of a national committee that comprises the General Trade Union, OCCI and Manpower Ministry. The national committee discussed issues of concern to the private sector and contributed to the new Labour Law.
