Muscat: In a statement issued by the BEB Consortium (Bechtel-Enka-BEC) spokesperson, Fawziya Al Mashyki, the company has attributed the blockade by Omani employees last Sunday to confusion about their wages.
"A group of Omani workers are confused about their wages and were preventing other workers from entering our jobsite," she said in a statement mailed to media. " The Consortium confirms that it has adhered to Oman Labor Law and will continue to resolve any remaining misunderstandings if any exist " BEB Consortium Public Relations Manager
The Omani employees, mostly drivers, had blocked the entrance to the much delayed Muscat International Airport project site for almost entire morning and afternoon last Sunday.
"Bechtel - ENKA - Bahwan is committed to provide fair wages to its workers," she said. Al Mashyki added that as a result of the new Labor Law of Oman, some workers of the project had expressed their concerns regarding how their salaries are calculated.
"A considerable amount of time has been spent by the Consortium, helping the workers to understand the laws with respect to their wages," the BEB Public Relations Manager added.
"The Consortium confirms that it has adhered to Oman Labor Law and will continue to resolve any remaining misunderstandings if any exist," she reiterated.
